Save A Life Day
Save A Life Day
Thursday, September 24, 2026
Description
Save a Life Day (or “SALD”) started in West Virginia in 2020, and has since expanded and grown into a nationwide initiative as of 2025 to prevent opioid overdose deaths by providing free naloxone and overdose prevention education within our local communities.
Somerset County has participated in Save a Life Day since 2023. Last year, volunteers and local community organizations were deployed to over 30 locations within the county, distributing over 977 Naloxone/Narcan kits (nearly 2000 doses) in a single day, in addition to countless meaningful conversations sharing valuable resources with members of our county community. This year, we are looking to continue to provide this life-saving education and expand our impact in the county.
We are calling upon our business community to join us in taking action against opioid overdose by participating in Save a Life Day. Participation can look like a lot of different avenues!
- Providing tabling opportunities for volunteers to hand out naloxone kits and resources for overdose prevention and recovery (Volunteer manpower is limited, if anyone in your organization would like to volunteer to table, please let me know!)
- Providing a "grab-n-go" table of resources and naloxone for customers, clients, and staff (Narcan and resources will be provided by the county and our community partners)
- Attending Narcan training for Somerset County businesses to be trained on how to administer Narcan as a means of First Aid (Date and location to be announced).
This is an incredibly meaningful day of community, connection, and healing, and we would love you to be part of it! If you are interested in participating, please reach out to Karissa Vassallo, Behavioral Health System Navigator for Somerset County, at kvassallo@somersetcountynj.gov.
