Hampton Inn & Suites Somerset Celebrates Grand Opening as Somerset County Prepares for a Landmark Tourism Year
SOMERSET, NJ — Local officials, business leaders, and hospitality partners gathered Friday afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of the Hampton Inn & Suites Somerset, a new hotel positioned to play a major role in Somerset County’s fast-growing tourism landscape.
The event drew members of the Somerset County Business Partnership, the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, hotel leadership, and community guests for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours, and remarks highlighting the region’s economic momentum.
Chris Edwards, president of the Somerset County Business Partnership and Somerset County Tourism, said the timing of the hotel’s debut could not be better. With the United States preparing for its 250th anniversary in 2026 and the FIFA World Cup coming to New Jersey and Philadelphia next summer, Edwards said Somerset County is uniquely positioned to welcome visitors, athletes, and delegations from around the world.
“We have a lot going on in tourism in the next six to 12 months,” Edwards said. “The eyes of the world are going to be on New Jersey next summer, and we need partners from ownership all the way down to the staff. This hotel is incredibly important not just to Franklin Township, but to the greater Somerset County community.”
Edwards said the county expects to learn within the next month which World Cup teams will train or stay in the region — a development that could bring thousands of visitors, media members, and international travelers into local hotels. He emphasized that strong collaboration among businesses, hotels, and tourism groups will be essential.
“This takes a village,” Edwards said. “We need local business partners supporting our hotels and major tourism groups helping drive big travel blocks. We represent 900 businesses and 70,000 employees, and we thank you for the economic impact you bring to Somerset County.”
Hotel ownership and management echoed that sentiment.
Standing alongside family members, owner Wayne Chu thanked the Chamber, Unity Bank — the hotel’s long-time financial partner — and Growth Properties, which oversees the property and assembled the hotel’s staff. Special recognition was given to General Manager Marco, who received praise for his leadership and commitment to delivering “exceptional service and memorable experiences” to future guests.
“I want to thank my family — my brother, my sister, and my lovely wife — and I want to thank God for all the blessings and miracles in my life and for this project,” Chu said during the ceremony. “We are truly blessed and very grateful. With gratitude and excitement, I declare this hotel officially open.”
After the remarks, guests gathered outside for the ribbon-cutting before returning inside for refreshments, networking, and guided tours of the property’s guest rooms and amenities.
The Hampton Inn & Suites Somerset, located at 240 Atrium Drive, aims to serve the needs of business travelers, leisure guests, and the greater Somerset community. Hotel representatives said they are excited to welcome local partners for meetings, travel blocks, and community events as the township and county prepare for an unprecedented surge in tourism.
The grand opening event was free and open to the public.
